Beyonda has been voted "Best Dj in Portland" a couple times. I think she has a pretty big following as well. The time has finally come for her to join us at Someday. I have no idea what she is going to play. Maybe she'll drop some soul 45's or maybe some jiggy southern 3 6 mafia-esque joints? Who knows? It's up to her. And we usually don't do The Fix on Saturdays but this event is a special occasion. Also to make it more awesome there are going to be some drink specials. What the are... I don't know, yet. But it will be worth your while to be out next weekend. Lots of things going on and we are keeping it affordable just for you!

Here is some more detailed info about her.
"Beyonda got her start in her hometown of Memphis, TN collecting soul records and sharpening her skills before hitting the streets as a DJ. Straight from Soulsville, she knows all about southern hospitality, musical roots, and payin’ dues. After a successful stint in Memphis, Beyonda decided to test herself elsewhere and began her journey to the West. Following her arrival in Portland, OR, she toured Europe and began DJing for the female hip-hop group, Siren’s Echo. They toured and opened for numerous groups (Wutang, Zion I, Lifesavas) for a year before she decided to focus on building her reputation on the dance floor. These days Beyonda keeps heads and dance floor maniacs engaged for hours. She mixes it up with serious dexterity and a variety of genres, adding dirty south, hip hop, live mash-ups, soul, old school, punk, rock, and turntablizm with a bit of the unexpected. I am not able to be there in person, because I will be djing at The Fix alongside Kez and Shafiq Husayn from the one and only Sa-Ra Creative Partners. However my posters will be at The Ace Cleaners for sale this Thursday. $5 of every poster sold will go to Bikes to Rwanda. Maybe there is some way that I can donate all of the money from my posters ( assuming I will sell at least one, most likely not ) to them or some other charitable cause. Every once in a while as a dj someone will notice all the
hard work, effort, money, and time that you put into djing.
Most times you're just the dude no one knows on stage,
sweating under some bright lights trying to figure out what to play next.
Renegade Mag wrote up the night that Kez and I played Various.
I thought it was pretty interesting that someone actually
contemplated what we would do, or if some crowd would
follow us from The Fix or Rockbox. That's pretty funny.

Shafiq Husayn grew up in Oakland, Watts, South Central, Texas and the South Bronx where he experienced hip hop in it's infancy, joined Zulu Nation and ran with pioneers Afrika Bambatta and Akrika Islam. In 2007 Shafiq began working on Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka, fleshing out existing beats and creating new music. Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka represents Shafiq in a state of mental and spiritual freedom that is in turn reflected in the music.
Shafiq Husayn has always maintained innovation and growth as his purpose and focus. From producing with Ice-T, to penning songs for Erykah Badu, to innovating as part of Sa-Ra, and now creating his own music, Shafiq Husayn strives to convey who he is through his music.

"I've been rhyming for quite some time, I'm almost coming up on 10 years oddly enough. In all my years rhyming, I've very rarely come across someone who I've been granted the opportunity to work with where both individuals were on the same page. I can honestly say, working with Hi-Res was one of the most cohesive projects I've ever done and am honored to not only call him a partner but a friend! This is a project that took us literally a month too make, all the rhymes written and beats were made to eachothers liking. There wasn't a single hitch, almost too good to be true! We wanted to create a project that wasn't necessarily an album, but also shouldn't be considered a mixtape. Short but sweet, convenient enough to get into but not to the point where you almost feel compelled to listen because it's a full fledged LP. My first thank you goes to someone I've thanked for quite some time, who I feel needs no introduction and has been true and true from 21 jump street; our friend KENNY FRESH. Here are somethings that I think could happen:
Dave will show up and deliver the funniest stand-up act of his career. Hey he has been MIA for a minute, right? He's had time to come up with some make you wanna vomit material.

Another likely scenario is the faux show. Someone comes out from the crowd at 12am and reveals that Dave is on his way and will arrive soon. Crowd gets antsy. Then the real deal is revealed. Ronin Roc is spinning at Tube and you are directed to not pass go and not collect 200$. Go back to Tube. You now have permission to start a spoiled kid riot!

Or the most awesome way things could go. Dave comes out. Dave asks for some real Oregon "kush" or whatever you kids are calling it these days. Dave requests that everyone join him at Silo or Ascension for an all night party.

Who knows what will happen. I suppose I will check Facebook at 12:15am.

I would like to put the word out that a dope movie is going to be playing at the Hollywood Theater this Saturday. Truck Turner! It's a part of an on-going film festival that is kinda underground, yet kinda not. They got featured in the My What A Busy Week section of the Portland Mercury.

1. The basically x-rated porno scene in "They Call Her One Eye". I have never been to the Oregon Theater or Jefferson St. Theater but I can only imagine that this is what it's like.

4. Whether it was worthy of a laugh or not, but a mostly packed to the brim Hollywood theater laughing simultaneously.

IDULL MIX

On May 12th 2009, Deejay Idull was in a life threatening accident that could have very easily taken his life. Idull was biking one night and was run over by a GMC Yukon. The truck cut him off and forced him to slam on his brakes which flung him from his bike and threw him right under the tires of the truck. Along with all the cuts and scrapes his head was completely ran over by the back tire and he broke his elbow.
After being stitched up and released from the hospital he came home and rested for a while then decided to throw together "Turndubalism", with only one arm.

Crazy Legs is THE person who helped put B-Boys on the map & Hip Hop become a culture. "Crazy Legs", a b-boy since the age of 10 years old and veteran of Hip Hop culture, as one of the original members of the Rock Steady Crew and the current president. His credits include many of the first Hip Hop tours in the early 80's, which set the foundation for what the culture has become.
