Blame it on the eeee-economy

This will brighten your day.

Do you enjoy Blaxsploitation? That was a rhetorical question. Anyways, I am a terrible writer. Don't listen to me. I would like to put the word out that a dope movie is going to be playing at the Hollywood Theater this Saturday. Truck Turner! It's a part of an on-going film festival that is kinda underground, yet kinda not. They got featured in the My What A Busy Week section of the Portland Mercury.
Portland Grindhouse Film Festival.
Check it out here.

My 5 favorite past GHFF highlights were:
1. The basically x-rated porno scene in "They Call Her One Eye". I have never been to the Oregon Theater or Jefferson St. Theater but I can only imagine that this is what it's like.
2. The lecture/interview with director of Maniac.
3. Mad awesome 70s trailers.
4. Whether it was worthy of a laugh or not, but a mostly packed to the brim Hollywood theater laughing simultaneously.
5. Shogun Assassin in 35mm.

See you there!

Sincerely,
Tha Digsta

IDULL MIX

On May 12th 2009, Deejay Idull was in a life threatening accident that could have very easily taken his life. Idull was biking one night and was run over by a GMC Yukon. The truck cut him off and forced him to slam on his brakes which flung him from his bike and threw him right under the tires of the truck. Along with all the cuts and scrapes his head was completely ran over by the back tire and he broke his elbow.
After being stitched up and released from the hospital he came home and rested for a while then decided to throw together "Turndubalism", with only one arm.

So this mix is FREE, but donations are being accepted to help Dj Idull in his recovery and bills. If you enjoy this mix please consider making a private donation - all proceeds will go directly to Dj Idull's personal paypal account. Thank you for your generosity and enjoy the music.

Edit - KEZ's commentary: This video was shot last summer at the old 360 Vinyl location. If ya didn't already know, that's my record shop, and we've since moved. If you're into buying good records, check out our info here: www.360vinyl.com. Anyways, make sure you watch the album covers, as they correspond with the lyrics. The records are a mixture of 360 stock, personal items from mine and Matt Nelkin's collections, and stuff Alex Newman dug up. Oh yeah, i make my acting debut at the end. Quite a stretch, huh?

HAPPY FEET!!!

This is a very special week for The Fix. We are blessed with the arrival of Happy Feet to Portland. Bobbito Garcia and Rich Medina return for a double pronged attack on your dancefloor.

In 1997, DJs Rich Medina and Bobbito Garcia started collaborating behind the turntables to the great pleasure of crowds in NYC and Philly. In ‘02, the two decided to start LEAVING THIS PLANET, which had a torrid run at Manhattan’s Table 50 until the club closed in ‘05. In ‘07, they renamed the party HAPPY FEET, and it became the most talked about event of that summer. The eclectic selectors have since brought HF to crowds in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Paris, and London. The pair blend genres seamlessly, so that a dancer, or listener, can experience Afro-Beat, Latin, Jazz, Dance, Breaks, progressive Hip Hop, and Soul in an unprecedented presentation. The achieved result is an entertaining night for the most die-hard rare groove fans or casual club goers. Everyone leaves with happy feet!

In 2009, HAPPY FEET comes to the Le Poisson Rouge venue in downtown Manhattan, and Rich Medina and Bobbito Garcia release their much anticipated compilation Connection: Modern Explorations In Afro-Beat & Afro-Latin (available on Double CD/Vinyl/Digital Download, www.r2records.co.uk/theconnection/). It promises to be a summer of excitement and unforgettable music & dance experiences!
And finally this party lands in Portland. Expect to experience one of the most unique and exciting dance parties to grace the Portland nightlife. Dance parties happen often, not often do they happen on this caliber. Don’t miss this unique musical event! What is "The Fix" you ask? The Fix is ultimately a labor of love that sprung from a collective of minds that felt Portland needed a night for music fans. The Fix is for all the musicians, artists, dancers, grown folks and true appreciators of dope music. Our band of misfits comes together from different walks of life but we are connected by one thing in common: the love of great records. Music binds us all and we hope you'll come share in the evening.

Music = Medicine - Come get your FIX!

ROBOT

KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT unveil the first song off their highly anticipated album "SURVIVAL SKILLS" in stores August 25th on Duck Down Records. Surely you will be able to buy it at 360 Vinyl.

ROBOT, produced by Havoc of Mobb Deep, is a hard-hitting track that showcases KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT in true form, highlighting the current auto-tune trend in Hip-Hop and exposing the copy-cat mentality that has rappers hiding behind "the program." Stepping outside the factory that Hip Hop has become, the duo lead the charge in the battle for originality.

"Survival Skills" has confirmed features from Mary J Blige, Slug, of Atmosphere, Immortal Technique, K'NAAN, Talib Kweli, Sean Price, Naledge of Kidz In The Hall, Smif N Wessun, Rock of Heltah Skeltah and Geo of Blue Scholars.

Production on the album includes tracks from Havoc, of Mobb Deep, 9th Wonder, Black Milk, Marco Polo, Moss, Coptic, KHRYSIS! and Ill Mind
