Art Crank Poster Show
Hello blog reader.
I figure no one actually reads this crap so why not post my super secret entry into the Art Crank Poster Show. I am not able to be there in person, because I will be djing at The Fix alongside Kez and Shafiq Husayn from the one and only Sa-Ra Creative Partners. However my posters will be at The Ace Cleaners for sale this Thursday. $5 of every poster sold will go to Bikes to Rwanda. Maybe there is some way that I can donate all of the money from my posters ( assuming I will sell at least one, most likely not ) to them or some other charitable cause. So go buy a damn poster on Thursday.
ARTCRANK Portland 2009 is set for Thursday, October 1 at The Cleaners at The Ace Hotel, located at 403 SW 10th Avenue. Admission is free, all posters are priced at $30.
anyways, here's my entry.
Hope you enjoy,
Tha Digsta

Opening sets.
Hey there fellow dj's,
This here article I found is very interesting. I think this singular topic
draws a fine line between good and bad dj's. So everybody.
Step to one side.

Super sweet press
Every once in a while as a dj someone will notice all the
hard work, effort, money, and time that you put into djing.
Most times you're just the dude no one knows on stage,
sweating under some bright lights trying to figure out what to play next.
Renegade Mag wrote up the night that Kez and I played Various.
I thought it was pretty interesting that someone actually
contemplated what we would do, or if some crowd would
follow us from The Fix or Rockbox. That's pretty funny.
Like we have fans. I can't speak for Kez, but I don't have
any fans.

Thanks Renegade!,

Late night TV
If you're like me, you come home late at night.
Usually not sober and you need to snack on something.
And when you sit in front of the tv with your warmed up hungry man
just waiting for you to dive into the volcano fudge browny dessert you just need something to watch.
Here is what I watch...
about the 1:15 mark, you will barf in your mouth, just a bit.
"I once filled a whole toilet bowl full of worms!" - Clee Irwin
ok, this one might not be airing anytime soon, but...
I would love to personally thank our sponsors!,

Shafiq from Sa-Ra Creative Partners
The Fix presents Shafiq Husayn …
Shafiq performs at The Fix Thursday October 1st, 2009. Someday Lounge 125 NW 5th 9pm, 21+ $5
Shafiq Husayn grew up in Oakland, Watts, South Central, Texas and the South Bronx where he experienced hip hop in it's infancy, joined Zulu Nation and ran with pioneers Afrika Bambatta and Akrika Islam. He has contributed production to Ice-T's Original Gangster, worked with Donald D on his Let the Horns Blow record, King Tee on Tha Triflin Album and IV Life, and assisted Lord Finesse on his album The Return Of The Funky Man.
In the mid-90's, Taz Arnold paid a visit to LA with a CD of Dilla beats. After hearing it, Shafiq insisted they join and create a movement- Sa-Ra Creative Partners Production Company. Sa-Ra translates to "the children of the powerful and infinite force in the universe." Om'Mas Keith joined the group, adding his musicality and multi-instrumental talents. In 2007 Shafiq began working on Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka, fleshing out existing beats and creating new music. Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka represents Shafiq in a state of mental and spiritual freedom that is in turn reflected in the music.
Shafiq Husayn has always maintained innovation and growth as his purpose and focus. From producing with Ice-T, to penning songs for Erykah Badu, to innovating as part of Sa-Ra, and now creating his own music, Shafiq Husayn strives to convey who he is through his music.
A must for lovers of World, Jazz, Funk and left-field hip hop.
The Fix features Dundiggy, DJ Kez and Rev, Shines playing Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Afro-Beat, Baile, Soul, Funk, Latin & other quality jams!
And that's just a taste...surely you can expect only the finest beats,
Sincerely,
Tha Digsta

While waiting for De La to take the stage I had an interesting convo with Gabe Bernstein, a fellow hiphop head.
He told me about two dope porjects that were on the horizon. Anyways, he posted them on my facebook and I just had to share.

New new
Hello there you special person you.
De La Soul was alright last night. It's a long story. I would give it a solid B.
Anyways, the new Luke Vibert album is pretty dope. Check out this preview youtube.
I like this sound. This album totally feels like it lives in a similar space as the newest Daedelus album. Not too sure what sort of workflow or equipment makes it sound similar. Maybe it's the monome or just being on the same wavelength? Who knows, but...
That first track was some dubstep ish.
Aaron and myself are djing at Various tonight here in Portland. Various is at Branx. Various is one of my favorite monthlies in Portland and I am so excited that they asked me to play their night. I would like to BIG UP Ryan Organ and Monkeytek! =)
You might hear these tracks tonight.
I am about this track right now.
See ya tonight at Branx 320 SE 2nd Ave PDX
Thanks for listening,
Tha Digsta
