POST ANNIVERSARY AWESOMENESS!

Hello,
Sara Moskovitz of the Apple Juice Crew and new member of the Local Cut online division of the Willamette Week posted her interview with Bobbito. Here's the link to that ::

WWEEK LOCAL CUT MANGO TANGO INTERVIEW

Also, in the wake of our 2 Year Anniversary Mango Tango gave us a quick rundown of what it was like to be in the NW. He wrote about a trip to Nike, his experience at The Fix and how lucky we are to have such a great scene here in Portland. He is totally on point (with his game) with his persectives.
Give it a quick read here ::

BOB's Bounce Mag Blog

I am glad our we can bring in guests with the support of the crowd that attends The Fix. It really wouldn't be possible if no one came out. We also try to maintain that we are charging the lowest amount to break even. So we aren't caked up or paying our rent with the dough. We just and I just love to make shows happen. So basically this is my way of saying thank you!
We hope you love and continue to support the dj's that live here and the ones that don't as well.
Stay warm and stay dry.
We are also trying to do something special on Christmas evening.
Dan aka DUNDIGGY

PS. The Fix gift pack makes a great XMAS stocking stuffer!
available at The Fix and at Hecklewood!

Some more what ifs

What if I was going to sleep and kept tossing and turning I would want this sung to me as a lullaby...

What if people from Portland made dope music?
I am so proud of this song bird. Straight Beauty! and where the hell is my Ragen + Ohmega vinyl. I need it for my rnb sets! hurry!
more info here :: myspace.com/ragenfykes

What If?
We put on dope shows for cheap?
What if?
We are doing it for the love! Thanks for your support!

Here's what the Willamette Week had to say ::
"The Fix: Bobbito García, Rev Shines, Ohmega Watts, DJ KEZ, DJ Dundiggy
[DON JUAN SUAVE] The Fix is the Someday Lounge’s weekly classic hip-hop-soaked party. To ring in its proud second anniversary, resident DJs KEZ, Shines and Dundiggy are handing the decks over to Bobbito García, New York City’s Puerto Rican street kingpin of all things good in this world. Check it out: Dude is the voice behind the “Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito” radio show and Knicks basketball games; a professional baller for the Puerto Rican equivalent of the NBA; an avid Nike and Adidas collector and creator (he penned an entire book with his affinity for aesthetically pleasing sneakers); the founder of Bounce Magazine and Fondle ’Em Records; an underground mix-tape maker. All “DJ Kool Bob Love” García needs now is his own Ben & Jerry’s flavor—something like Cool Cucumber and C.R.E.A.M. SARA MOSKOVITZ. 9 pm. 125 NW 5th Ave., 248-1030. $7. 21+. "

What If?
XMAS is coming up faster than I expected! Matt Nelkin is going to be our special guest the evening of the 25th. (the lords bday) Go out and celebrate that shit! Pop a bottle of wine.

What if you could keep a secret.
Secrets are like lies. They are easy to put out there. I think I am bad at both.

The Fix turns 2!!!

For two years now The Fix has served as a beacon of light for Portland's hip-hop impassioned. What sprang from a labor of love, The Fix has developed into an entity all it's own. A place where people of a like mind can come to in celebration of the music we love. Deep rooted but not limited to hip-hop, The Fix thought it only appropriate to bring you a guest that helped build this culture we hold so dear. Ladies and gentlemen enter…Bobbito Garcia. Backed by the cats that have been consistently innovating, educating and always entertaining your thursdays. Ohmega Watts, Rev. Shines, Kez and Dun Diggy.

Bobbito Garcia aka Dj Cucumberslice aka Cool Bob Love has been a prominent fixture in nearly every facet of hip-hop and street culture since the 80's as a DJ, writer, actor, photographer, entrepreneur, street player, sneakerfreak, and member of the Rock Steady Crew.

Briefly after starting at Def Jam Bobbito linked up with Stretch Armstrong to form what The Source then named as "The Best Hip-Hop Radio Show of All Time". Rightfully so as the show was credited for introducing the world to then unsigned acts such as Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Big Pun, Fugees and Mobb Deep. Still on a mission to carry the underground through the 90's Bobbito formed the acclaimed indie label Fondle'Em records providing an outlet for MF Doom, Kool Kieth and Cage.

Aside from being a bonafide hip-hop legend Bobbito is still renowned in the street for his first love, basketball. A streetball performer himself with a group called "Project Playground Basketball" that has appeared on numerous TV slots and Knicks halftime shows. Always the protean Bobbito branched into other aspects of basketball founding the streetball mag Bounce while becoming a saught after announcer. Having done voice overs for Nike, the NBA Street franchise as well as joining the New York Knicks broadcast team, Bobbito is truly the voice of New York B ball.

Already questioning when the man has time to breathe, Bobbito is also and accomplished columnist for the likes of Vibe, Fader, Urb, and the Source. A sneaker connoisseur having authored a book on the subject and hosting show on ESPN "It's the Shoes". His list goes on and on. Clearly a testament to the fact that Bobbito is a true inspiration to all of us following our passions in life. Creating our own path and not following suit to the norm, which is of course what The Fix is all about. We cordially invite you to a come celebrate a milestone for us and what you our guests have helped create.

If you don't know who Large Professor is then you should come and see a living legend. Here's a clue in the form of an SAT question. Eminem is to DR. DRE as NAS is to ...
You guessed it. Xtra P aka Large Pro. So if you like Nas or know who Main Source are

so the reason I am posting is to let all of our fans out there know that XLR8R magazine did an issue about PDX. Cover here ::

Check it out online :: http://www.xlr8r.com/magazine/121

or pick up the real deal?!

Your friends Rev Shines and Ohmega Watts (Resident Fix dj's) and awesome dudes were featured. Your boy Kez is in the On the Deck's Section. Well, XLR8R has decided to take over THE FIX this thursday. We are gonna party ya'll. Not really we are just gonna stand around and look cool in our street wear. Who wants to dance at the almost end of what will be a long week? Not me.

anyways,

I just wanted to put this out there. On my way to Various at Branx and Shines and Evil One at Holocene, my girlfriend and myself were sort of attacked by a person who looked like the guy/girl standing next to Russel Simmons in this picture.

I wanna see what people think and ask is it ok to hit a tranny if you are a man? what if you are a woman? Also what do you do if someone attacks you on a major boulevard?
Honestly I wanna hear from people. I guess this comes with the territory. No matter where you live there are psychos.

Well, we made it out of another fucking insane weekend (e.g. car crashes, heavy winds and rain, and tranny beatdowns)

This winter will require a taser of sorts or pepper spray and a trusty rain coat.
I hate being wet and refuse to use an umbrella. I ain't rhianna dangit!!!

see ya thursday

=)

So Luke, of Luke Skywalker records Luke, has a Tv show called

It's pretty wild. The episode that I saw was him making it rain like a shamen on some girls at a strip club. Apparently it was his bachelor party. Yeah I know he is the last dude that should get married. Sex is all over the tube. If I had kids they would live in a box that had air holes cut out of the top. Or better yet, I would live in Forest park in a tent and only come to the city for groceries and home school them.
anyways .....

"Debauched Zeitgeist is a composite moving image created from the cover of 2live Crews’ 1989 controversial album, “As Nasty As They Want to Be”, which was banned and deemed obscene in the U.S. This still image is layered with ocean footage shot near the Gulf, and four small videos that animate the women’s hair. In the video the four members of 2live Crew, who in the original image face the camera beneath the women’s legs, have been removed. The women remain gazing out at the ocean at a passing boat while their hair blows in the breeze." -taken from http://www.itsnicethat.com/

Debauched Zeitgeist (2006) by Carla Edwards from Why + Wherefore on Vimeo.

you should know.

Just another reason to...

Yeah so you really missed out because last night Flying Lotus dropped "vote obama way" in his set. I think he was in the video, so he probably had an A Capella. What a dope show.

The Adidas Consortium group consists of elite boutiques around the world, and this year, Compound has proudly joined its ranks. Along with 23 other stores, Adidas tapped Compound to be a part of the “AZX Project”, and design our own version of the Adidas ZX model. With a choice of seventeen different ZX models as our palette, we chose to run with the ZX500. The result was a design inspired by the Portland culture we sleep, eat, and breath. Lasered roses represent Portland’s nickname, “the City of Roses”, and the insole of the shoe is a topographic shot of downtown Portland with an arrow pinpointing Compound’s location in Old Town. The colors: scarlet, black, and white, pay homage to our beloved NBA team, the Portland Trailblazers. Denim fabric was chosen to reflect the casual lifestyle of Portlanders. Because the city of Portland is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, we chose to implement technical features on the shoe that not only achieve a great look, but also enhance the functionality of the shoe. The honey comb rip-stop material on the shoe, which resembles Compound’s signature logo, also provides lightweight durability and toughness. The 3M used on the back heel and Compound logo provides an added safety feature for trekking, running, and cycling around the city… activities which are part of everyday life here in the NW. With Compound’s version of the Adidas ZX500, we have created a simple, yet complex in attention-to-detail shoe that appeals to both the sneaker aficionado and the everyday person.

On September 19th 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m., Compound and A.N. Other Project will host a premier event at Holocene. Compound is a creative shop and gallery that subsists on the energy of Portland. This sustenance powers the Compound machine to produce the highest quality products. The newest production from Compound is a collaboration with world renowned sneaker manufacturer Adidas. Compound was recently invited by Adidas to join the Consortium group which consists of 24 premier boutiques in the world. The current project from the Adidas Consortium Group is the “AZX project”. Each Consortium partner is charged with customizing the Adidas ZX running shoe. The Compound-Adidas sneaker incorporates the soul and lifestyle of Portland into every pair of shoes with the highest quality textiles and a classic rose pattern over black that symbolizes the city of roses. Like an artist’s print this sneaker is available in limited quantities.

A.N. Other Project is not just another addition to the already overcrowded street apparel market. In design and workmanship, A.N. Other sets itself apart from everyone else. Each garment is made to the highest standards in Japan, which is a leader in the meticulous manufacturing of apparel. The mandate from the people behind A.N. Other is to create quality products with an attention to detail and functionality that have a clean, streamline and classic look. The quality of ANO clothes is never sacrificed to save a dime, and because A.N. Other is not mass produced, it’s made for the discerning customer who appreciates quality and detail. We produce the uniform for the active urbanite living in the city as well as the occasional outdoors enthusiast. Our team consists of people from Portland to New York and all the way to Tokyo. We implement all the elements gained from our living environments into our products.

Vinyl the true story

This is a clip from the Oregonian featuring 360 Vinyl store owner and member of The Fix crew DJ KEZ.

This is just a part of the article but you can get the rest at: Oregonlive.com Search keyword DJ KEZ.

Ironically, record sales are softer in one area where they stayed strong throughout the years: Among DJs. For years, DJs kept record culture alive, spinning vinyl in clubs. "So many DJs over the past couple years have switched over to playing mp3s versus vinyl," said Aaron Marquez, the owner of 360 Vinyl in Portland. Marquez, who spins under the moniker DJ KEZ, remains a vinyl stalwart. His store now deals more in hip-hop, he said.
Because so many dance labels are small, independent outfits, they can't absorb price increases, such as the cost of gas, as well, said Marquez, squeezing them out of the vinyl market. "I've been involved in this business for 8 or 9 years," he said. "I've seen prices go up a lot."

Not one to name drop but.....

LEBRON JAMES AT THE FIX..... Yeah no big deal!!!!!!
Photobucket
Here is a little of the press for the Mick Boogie night, with are 2 other very special guest Lebron James and Cliff Robinson.

Photobucket

We heard a rumor that Lebron James was at the Fix (Someday Lounge’s hip-hop weekly) last Thursday night as Cleveland’s Mick Boogie and the regular PDX Fix crew had the party poppin’. Said source mentioned that He was occasionally bumped and/or grinded on, paying no mind to the constant girlie action. The men, apparently, were even more transfixed by His presence than the women. Anyway, now there’s photographic proof that He was there. Non-basketball people: This is a big deal. It’s like Thom Yorke showing up at the Matador.

New Artist You Should Look Out For: SHAWN JACKSON

Just some info on a new artist you should hear. I think it's right down the Fixtures' alley.

"What comprises a classic album? Lyrical content? A cohesive theme? Solo shine backed by polished beats? Overarching bravado? Yes and no. Then what? Context! A classic LP is always defined by the times. It fills the void in an otherwise murky, uninspired pool of emcees (yes, Lil Mama and Hurricane Chris, I’m talking about you). And west coast native Shawn Jackson’s debut installment, First of All …, does just that. It’s honest, soulful, and lyrically filling (peep tracks 1-13, then press repeat). Even the most cynical hip hop heads will have reason to believe again. If he’s anything like his Tres Records brethren Blu, then the game need not worry. Haters and emcees alike, take note, Shawn Jackson bout to show ya’ll how do this son."
